What is comprehensive insurance?

Casco insurance (CASCO) is a voluntary vehicle insurance designed to cover damages to your car. Unlike mandatory Motor third party liability insurance (MTPL), which compensates for damages to other road users, casco insurance compensates for damages to your car – even if you are at fault.

Casco insurance may cover the following risks:

Traffic accidents, accidents (including cases of at-fault),
Theft or attempted theft,
Vandalism, intentional damage,
Natural phenomena (rain, hail, fire, falling trees)
Collision with animals
Other unforeseen events that caused damage or destruction of the car

Can any car be insured with comprehensive insurance?

No. Most insurers apply certain restrictions, such as:

Age restrictions – cars older than 10-15 years are often not insured

Make, model, modification – insurers do not insure certain models (powerful, sporty, special purpose, more frequently stolen) or impose special additional requirements (e.g. improved anti-theft system, or higher than standard deductible)

Purpose – transportation, driving lessons, rental, etc. may not be covered.

Origin – most insurers ask you to indicate if the car was imported from the US market. Failure to disclose this information may result in a reduction or denial of coverage.

What is important to know about the franchise (deductible)?

How much does comprehensive insurance cost?

The deductible is the part of the damage that the insured person bears. It can be expressed as:

A specific monetary amount, for example €200 – this means that if the damage is €1,000, the insurance company will pay €800

Expressed as a percentage, for example, 10% of the damage amount – this means that if the damage amounts to €2,000, the insurer will compensate €1,800, and you will pay €200 yourself.

Some offers may apply a combined deductible, for example 5% but not less than €150.

The lower the deductible, the higher the insurance price. It is important to weigh up what risk is acceptable in your case.

Does comprehensive insurance cover any breakdown?

comprehensive car insurance

No. Casco insurance is not a guarantee for car repairs or maintenance. It does not cover:

Natural wear and tear or mechanical failures (e.g. engine, gearbox, brakes);

Electrical or electronic defects that occurred not due to an incident;

Consequences of improper operation;

Previous defects, if they have not been repaired;

Situations where the car was left unlocked or unsecured.

The insurance company may also refuse to pay the benefit or reduce it if the vehicle was technically unsound (when its operation is prohibited by law), the vehicle was driven by a drunk or intoxicated person, as well as if the driver did not have the right to drive this type of vehicle, and other cases. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully read the rules of transport insurance and follow them.

F.A.Q.

Purchasing insurance on the “Man ramu” Insurance platform is easy, but we understand that you may still have various questions.

Are compulsory and comprehensive insurances concluded in one contract?

No. Compulsory Motor third party liability insurance (MTPL) and comprehensive insurance are two different contracts. The former is mandatory by law, while comprehensive insurance is voluntary. Some insurance companies allow them to be purchased together as a “package”, but legally they are still separate insurance products.
No, this is not required. You can have compulsory insurance with one company and comprehensive insurance with another. However, if you take out both insurances with the same insurer, discounts and simpler claims administration are often available, as all information is in one system.
No. They can have different start dates. Compulsory insurance must be in force at all times if you use the car on the road. Casco insurance can be started at any time – for example, when you buy a new car or simply for additional protection.
Some insurance companies provide a free minimum assistance package with compulsory insurance, but more extensive assistance (e.g. fuel delivery, replacement car) is usually included in the comprehensive insurance contract or offered as an additional supplement. It is worth checking the specific conditions.
The deductible is the part of the damage that you pay yourself. It can be a fixed amount (e.g. €200) or a percentage (e.g. 10% of the damage amount). Some offers apply a combined deductible, for example 5% but not less than €150. The lower the deductible, the higher the insurance price.
No. Insurers often no longer insure cars older than 10-15 years.
Yes, most comprehensive insurance contracts are valid not only in Lithuania, but also in other European countries. The exact territory of validity is indicated in the insurance certificate, so it is necessary to check this before traveling.
No. Casco does not cover natural wear and tear, mechanical failures, electrical defects or the consequences of improper operation. Insurance protection applies only against specific events – accidents, theft, vandalism or natural disasters.
